We are committed to honoring God by reaching out with the love of Jesus Christ and proclaiming Him as Lord to the world. Our mission is to know and love Jesus more and faithfully follow him. We do this by inviting others To Know Jesus Better and Make Jesus Better Known.

Our History

Christ Methodist Church in Newcomerstown has a remarkable history deeply rooted in Methodism.

Our church was formed on March 6th, 1966, from the merger of College Street Methodist Protestant Church (est. 1843) and Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church (est. 1830). The reason for the merger was to build a new church building together. College Street had lost its building to a tornado in 1955, and Trinity’s building did not have enough space for the size of their congregation. College Street brought to the merger a tract of land for a new building on Oak Street, and Trinity brought a newly built parsonage (1960) on Beaver Street. Construction of our church building started on Father’s Day, June 19th, 1968. The new building was dedicated for use on Mother’s Day, May 11th, 1969. A large addition including a gym, youth room, and extra kitchen area was completed in 2005. In 2023 the congregation voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church and join the newly formed Global Methodist Church.

Global Methodist Church

Christ Methodist Church in Newcomerstown is affiliated with the Global Methodist Church. In July of 2023, Christ Methodist Church of Newcomerstown disaffiliated from the Christ United Methodist Church and affiliated with the Global Methodist Church. This was a decision based on the core values and beliefs of our congregation. We believe that God has given us clear guidance and direction with our affiliation based on the core values and beliefs of the Global Methodist Church.
